Will 2 side cabinets work with HF 44" chest plus upper?

So I think I'm fighting a losing battle here. I picked 2 side cabinets for my 44" chest only to find out they redesigned them to a deeper size. I reluctantly purchased a new bottom chest with the $439 coupon and brought my old chest to work.

Now I am left with 1 side cabinet in the box, one installed on my new 44" base and I have my 18" deep upper chest on top of the 44". I was going to unbox the other side cabinet when I noticed the upper chest is tight to the bottom. I dont think the lip for the second side cabinet will fit with the upper chest sitting there.

In hindsight I should had just purchased a second 44" base chest instead of 2 side cabinets for almost the same price. One is still in the box so I can return it. Does anyone know if the lip of the 44" base would flex enough for the 2nd side cabinet or is it a lost cause?

just use bit of mdf as a spacer so side lip level.
Screw top box to mdf or have lip at rear if feel need it extra secure .

I have a locker on each side of my 44 with the 44 chest on top. They both fit with no issue.

If you’re saying you now have the newer, deeper, 44” base - 2 of the newer deeper side cabinets, and the ORIGINAL 44” top chest - I’m wondering if maybe there is a slight deviance in the widths between the two generations if you’re saying there doesn’t seem to be enough room to let the other cabinet hang off the new lower box, with the older top chest on it..

There are plenty of guys on here that have the lockers or drawer units on both sides of our boxes with no fitment issues. But I’d venture to say everyone has the same generation of boxes married together.. i mean, its only like a 1/16 or 1/8th of an inch were talking about - is the fitment really that tight?

Maybe remove the top chest, hang both cabinets, and then reinstall the top and see if it’ll all squeeze together. Maybe the weight of the top chest will help force everything to snuggle into place together.

It is that tight. I have a picture but not sure how to post it from my phone.

So I lifted the upper chest on some scrap wood and put the second side cabinet on. It must had pulled the sides a little because it went from zero space to looking like there was enough to put the top back on the base. I pulled the scrap out and she fit snug between the 2 side cabinets.

I like the shorter drawers of the 44" and sides vs the deeper drawers of the other models so I think I made the right choice at the end of the day.

Planning on similar setup. Getting a new bottom, but going to use old top and sides. I'll leave the 4" difference either at the back, or split the difference. Going up against the wall, so hopefully not a big deal.

Looks like you changed the drawers around on the right side cabinet already. That's how I arranged the drawers on mine before giving the set to my son a few weeks ago.

Yea I was debating if I would like the deeper drawer on top or not. With all the extra side drawers and deeper base I have to figure out what to put where now.

I find deeper drawers end up collecting more "****" which isn't ideal for the easier to reach ones.

I moved mine around just to blend better with drawers on the 44".
