Will a 3 phase plug always have 4 terminals?

Kinda unrelated to garage stuff, but I am looking to picking an APC PDU and I know many of them are 208v. I have a 30A 240v receptacle installed for my network and so I am hoping to use that.

The particular model I am looking at grabbing is this:

The weird part is that it shows:

Nominal Output Voltage 200V, 208V, 230V, 240V
Nominal Input Voltage 200V, 208V, 230V
Acceptable Input Voltage 200-240 VAC

But, it's got a NEMA L6-30P plug which is what my receptacle has. There's no mention of phases or anything so its a bit confusing.

Any thoughts guys? Thanks in advance!

There's 208v single phase power in parts of the US and 200v single phase in Japan.
That looks to be a single phase device.

Ok cool - the last data center I worked in had 3 phase power (manufacturing facility) but the one this strip is going into is just conventional 120v and 240v receptacles nothing fancy

Thanks - but, in this case, not entirely sure how useful that is only because this is computer equipment. Its so unclear - wish APC would just list this device as being single or three phase requirement.

I work in data centers as well. 3 Phase power is usually ran to the UPS's and in some cases the stand alone PDU's. The PDU's usually steps down the power.

The L6-30R receptacle is pretty common connector and as you recognized earlier it is not a three phase connector.

Yah - I am not sure if the PDU does the step down or if the APC Symmetra does the step down but I know that my APC Symettra 16kv unit showed "208v Input" on the LCD, but like you said, PDU was plugged into the UPS. This time around I only need the strip count and switching, so the PDU is going directly into the 240v receptacle.

208v is very common here in Chicago in commercial applications.

That would be either 208Y/120V or 480Y/277V where a neutral is desired, otherwise a 3 phase 250 or 480V 4-wire plug & receptacle would be used.

An L6-30 is a single phase 2 wire grounding device.

U can have 208v single phase off of a 208y/120v 3phase 4-wire service. Its 208v between any 2 phases.

So if u have a 208v 30a single phase receptacle, the L6-30 is correct...
