Will a Harbor Freight side cab fit on a SO bottom?

Here's the cart I want to add to, it has the lip around the top, do I still need an adapter?

You should not need an adaptor all the side boxes basically just hang on that side lip. Just make sure you measure the depth of your SO and the depth of the HF side box.

Done deal! Fit like it they were made for each other.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the HF boxes. I was looking at Craftsmans last Friday and the HF General boxes are a much more substantial box.

HF has a set of bolts that are supposed to hold them together at the bottom, the holes are already on other General boxes but I would have to drill them into the SO box. I don't think SO used them, didn't they just hang there?

I can live with the color difference but had I known I would have just left the SO Rustoleum Sunrise red as planned.

That looks pretty good on there. If your going to roll the box around, or load it very heavy, I would bolt it up.

I do plan on rolling it so perhaps I will. Unfortunately the predrilled holes on the HF don't match up well with the bottom of the SO so I'll have to drill some new ones and use some stainless bolts.

thanks,

Rob

If the SO cart already has some holes, I would pull the bottom drawer off it's slides and mark the locations on the HF sidebox using a sharpie.
At least that way you are only drilling into your non-factory addition, rather than your vintage box.

I would but there aren't any holes in the SO. The larger HF boxes have threaded holes so when you add the end cab the bolts go through the holes in the end cab and thread into the main box, like this.

So if I want to attach it at the bottom I will have to drill my SO. Are SO end cabs bolted at the bottom?

I would not bore holes in a vintage SO box just to mount a HF side cab. Just add some weight to the HF cab and roll it around easily and it'll be just fine.

what about bolting a piece of angle iron to the bottom of your SO box and the side of the HF side box (It looks like your HF box hangs down a little lower)? At least then the added holes in the SO box are on the bottom, where nobody is likely to care.

Good idea above. That way you keep the visible side of the Snap-on clean from holes and still get the added strength of being bolted in place.
