Hello I have a 28x52 10ft ceilings r21 in walls r30 in ceiling and storage attic will not be insulated. Will a mini split work efficiently in a shop this big are the 36k units the largest you can get? When I was looking at propane hanging unit I was told I’d need a 60-80k unit so a mini split would prob be too small correct? I live in northern ny where the summers get to the high 90s but mainly want it for the best where winter is -15 to 30 degrees for 4 months.
How do they compare to the hanging propane for efficiency? Thanks

I just looked up specs for a 30,000 btu split and they said ambient temp was around 14F degrees. When I installed mine I thought it was around there. Cooling works fine, Haven't tried heating yet.

You compare efficiency within fuels ... between it's cost.

Look around and find a load calculator .... punk in what you have, Understand that for maintaining a temp ... not trying to keep it at 40 and have in be 60 in an hour.

I have a building in PA thats 1600sf and it can be heated with 15k .. but it's got better insulation than you have and I maintain the temp .... why would I do otherwise with such a low load.

It's all about insulation and how you plan on uiing it.

As far as different costs -- there are formulas available. I use a closed combustion cabinet style wall/floor unit -- propane 80-%
