Will etching remove paint?

I am just getting ready to paint my new addition and was wondering if I need to cover the floor with tarps, because I will be etching the concrete with acid before I seal it and if the acid will remove the paint specs then I wont bother to cover the floor when I paint. What do you guys recommend?

I just epoxied my garage floor. The etching did lighten the paint up, but did not remove all of it. Just to be safe, I would cover the floor.

I'd still cover it. While it might remove the paint. I'm willing to bet it will become a gummy mess in the process. Making it a major pain in the rear.

No, its best to remove a failed coating completely and start over.
