Los Angeles, stuck on the 60 freeway.
2 daily drivers in the home.

Pretty consistently getting 4-4.5 years out of a battery before it effectively dies. We love in the Los Angeles area, so summer heat is probably doing more to deteriorate the batteries than cold. The cars are pretty much driven daily, unless we're out on a week's vacation.

So, will a tender help extend my batteries life?

With the amount that it seems that you drive them, my opinion is no. It will not make a difference for you.

I will say yes it will; hard to prove though. I like the battery minder ones with the pulse that desulfates the plates. I have seen it work before.

That being said, I change my batteries on anything that leaves the property every 4 to 4.5 years. Getting stuck with a dead battery is just not worth it.

You already know what the problem is. HEAT !

Keep the outside of the battery clean even if you just spray it down with a garden hose.

Second every month or two, pull the caps off the battery and check the fluid level. If you have city water, use it. If you are on a well, use filtered or store bought distilled water.

..... dependents on how far you drive the daily drivers..... minimum of 30 mins or top it off with any charger once every 6 months..... think short driving kills the battery faster than heat.

As Showkey says, desulfication is mostly a requirement for storage or deep-cycle batteries.

Tender would be a waste IMHO on a daily driver....I use one on my Harley that stays parked for weeks at the time in the garage and the riding mower.
