Had a flat this weekend. Have a locking lug nut, and it cracked when I tried to remove it. Hammered a 12 pt 3/4" craftsman socket on there to get it off...

Locking nut is stuck in the socket...

Think I will just buy a new one...

Yes they will. It is up to you morally to decide if you want to. I generally don't warranty things that I knowingly abused. One time I bought some Craftsman stuff on ebay, and one ratchet came in much worse condition than expected, and I used the warranty to replace it. The local store asked no questions, and handed me a refurbed made in USA model, and actually went so far as to ask me if the new one was alright.

They will warranty anything. I admittedly have "abused" the warranty before, but in this case I think I would just cut my losses and buy a new one...

Yep. I looked at the 18mm that was hammered onto a lugnut my room mate left behind for about 15 years. Looked like a banana peel in the corners. One minute in my new vise, one BFH and I have an extra 18mm Craftsman socket.

Ethics? And people wonder why it is getting harder for companies to provide and honor a warranty.

20% of the population always try to spoil it for the remaining 80%.

just drive the lug nut out and get it replaced. don't worry about ethics. you had to get the job done and it's done end of story, get a new socket, move on with life.

Sears stop selling their Craftsman tape measure for that very reason. Many stores were warranting more of them than selling them.

Most warrantied ones were owner abuse rather than material failures.
