I have a 16' wide garage door and want to put a bendpack lift on one side that has a 103" column width. Can I still have room for an SUV to park next to the lift if I position the lift so that the inside of the first column is even with the edge of the door?

What kind of SUV? Do you have a Suburban, or a little Japanese ricer SUV? Measure your vehicle and you should be able to know.

The liftside bay in my new building is 24' wide with a 16' door. I have the lift column about 18" from the dividing wall and could easily fit a fairly large SUV on the other side of the lift. I do have 32' of depth to position the vehicle, however- it would likely be tougher if it were a shallow bay.

If the door opening is actually 16', then that is 192".
Since you will offset the posts to where one column is basically inline with one side of the door opening, subtract the distance from the face of the lift column to the back of the other lift column, which should be 103" minus the depth of the column.

Assuming the column is 10" deep, you would have 192"-(103"-10")=99" of clear space from the other side of the door opening to the back of the lift column.

My full-size pickup (Dodge Ram) is 6'-7.5" wide, or 79.5"
If I slid it in alongside the lift, installed as you suggest, and assuming the dimensions above, I'd have 10" on each side, which would break off both of my mirrors, and leave me unable to open the door on the column side.

YMMV

i was thinking the same thing. Do you have a overly large cheaply built American Suburban or a finely built Euro / Japanese SUV? :bounce:

and yes, this was a crack at your closed minded thoughts. :D

either way, measure what you got and see if they will fit.

I have a VW Tourareg wich has the ability to close the mirrors in with a button on the console. The garage is 20' deep x 25' wide. I'm figuring the outside of the column is going to come out to about 8' (or half of the 16' space). The car will squeeze in but I'm concerned with the ability of someone in the passenger side being able to get out of the car.
