Will this Furnas 69HA1 Pressure switch work for 1Ph 5Hp compressor?

Good morning, I have been slowly working on getting my old Saylor Beall 3Ph compressor converted to 1Ph and up and running. I have a new mag starter & new motor. My question is if I can use the original pressure switch. It is a Furnas 69HA1 pressure switch. The reason I am not sure is that the ratings only state (5Hp, 600V, 1Ph). I have a standard 240V home in the US, will this work? Is the 600V value a maximum value? I am not sure, do you guys know if this will work, my assumption is no.

Thanks

How many HP is the (new) motor? The switch is rated at 3 HP 240 volts. The 600 number is specified with HP and indicates that there may be an amperage issue if used with lower voltage.

But, what mag starter are you using? If it is the main power controlling device and the pressure switch is only energizing the mag starter then no problem: the mag starter doesn't draw much current at all.

The "new" motor is also a 5hp (Leeson) motor. It has a max FLA of 22Amps. I found a good deal on a new mag starter so I am replacing the original mag starter with a new Elimia Industrial Full Voltage Motor Starter (1 phase- 5 HP @ 240 VAC Max FLA 28 Amps
).

According to the spec, the switch will be able to handle the 5HP (1phase) load without the need of magnetic switch.

Trey,
Yes @ 600V therefore I assume the amperage is OK @ 600V but at 240 The amperage may be two high, yet I am not sure what the value would be for specing the right switch and/or the wiring from the mag starter to the switch.

The switch itself is not rated for a 5 HP 240 volt single phase motor. The magnetic starter is not rated for 5 HP single phase either. You MUST use the HP rating (not amps) with motor loads, and that magnetic starter is rated at 3 HP according to the image.

According to the spec, the switch will be able to handle the 5HP (1phase) load without the need of magnetic switch.

You may want to re-read and understand that specification as shown in the image. It is rated at 3 HP, not 5 HP, at 240 volts. The OP is not running this at 600 volts!

Nehog,

Sorry for the confusion, the mag starter was shipped with the wrong label on the enclosure, I have confirmed from their tech and the markings on the contactor for the mag starter itself that it is rated for 1ph, 240V, 5Hp.

From my understanding from Elimia's tech the mag starter is the main current device, the wires going to the switch are just control wires (they are 14ga currently on the starter), so now I assume that it is correct, as you previously stated, the switch is only energizing the mag starter.

Also I double checked and Saylor Beall uses this same pressure switch for 2, 3, 5, 7.5 & 10Hp models, even though the switch does not specifically say it is rated that high, I think this furthers the assumption that it is OK due to the mag starter, if there was no mag starter it would NOT be ok....

I attached pics of the wiring diagram and the label on the mag starters contactor itself.

So I believe I am good to go....???:dunno:

There is a very tiny amount of current going thru the pressure switch, so little it is of no concern, only enough to operate the motor starter. dont sweat it, just hook it up and go.

In that case, yes, you are good to go. But ask them to send you the 'right' label for your starter!
