I have a the whole bottle of this disc brake caliper lube. Will it be ok on the screw of my Wilton. Or the only other thing I have is just regular old wheel bearing grease.

Then what about the slide tube. Can I use this finishing wax to wax the tube. Or does the tube even need waxed.

Do I need to do both to the tube. Wax and oil. Or just one or the other.

I hate to sound cheap. But this is stuff I have on hand. And now my funds are getting low since I have to add on to my work bench just to mount this damn vise. :D

Thanks

That Brake Caliper Grease would probably work, However something like SuperLube is going to work much better imo

I used anti-seize.........don't know if that was the right thing to do or not? The old grease that was in there was all dried up, so I figured I would try the anti-seize.

Wheel bearing grease or the Brake grease will work fine, as will super lube, or almost any other type of grease. I commonly use Mobil 1 red grease for many things...

that brake grease is too expensive for a vise.

Seriously? For the amount he will use who cares? Or were you being facetious?

I wouldn't use anti seize. It is not really a lubricant and can be slightly abrasive. In the home shop I highly doubt you would be able to wear out a screw/nut because of it, but till. Wheel bearing grease is a good solution, as is any other high pressure lubricating grease.

You want an extreme pressure grease for the screw. Anti-seize is popular for the application. I prefer to use Molykote GN. If you want, I can send you a tube. Just send me a PM with your address.

The slide works more smoothly with lubricant. I like wax because it doesn't attract dirt like oil does. I used and recommended DuPont Teflon Multi-Use Dry, Wax Lubricant for years. However, Dupont (in their infinite wisdom) reformulated the product. The new stuff *****. I haven't looked for a suitable replacement. The wax that you have should work. Any wax is better than nothing.

Well I'll tell ya all what. I used my disc brake grease. It is so frickin smooth. If I leave the dynamic jaw off, and loosen the swivel a bit, I can spin the whole vise around and round like a merry go wheel. :D I'll call that smooth enough for me.

Here's a link to the finished restoration. Thanks for your help.
