Will this motor controller work for this motor?

I recently pulled a DC motor out of a treadmill a friend was getting rid of. I want to use it on my drill press to get the speed slow enough to drill metal. I want to run it off regular 120v current. Will the KB KBMM-125 controller (http://www.kbelectronics.com/manuals/kbmm_smt_manual.pdf) work for this motor?

Probably will work OK. I have a very similar setup (DC motor, and a similar controller) on my small lathe, and it works well. Ramp up to speed, and some nice features such as (within limits) speed regulation. You may need to spend a bit of time configuring it (the controller) to get it working best.

BTW a continuous variable drill press is heaven, I have one of those too and love it. Simply dial in the speed desired and off you go, no belts to change or anything. (My drill press uses a CVT to do speed, not a variable speed motor.)

Thanks. It looks like I will need to add an auxilary heat sink to get it up to a 1.5hp rating. Wiring doesn't look too hard. For some reason I thought motor controllers were cheaper than thay are. Even on ebay they are running close to $100. That's a lot more than I paid for the motor!

I'm excited to not have to mess with belts on the press.
