I'm surprised there isn't a thread for this.. Sort of sketchy detail (and I'll admit I haven't tried really hard) on the web on this one. Found this in my son's pickup truck while replacing the bench seat a few weekends back.. The fairly decent seat was a really good junk yard find on an all you can carry for $50 Saturday pick..

This plier screw driver combo was under the old seat in his truck, where my dad (who owned the truck previously and was a tool collector) probably dropped in between the seat long ago for us to find...

If you've got a tool or related story / detail.. here's a place to post it.

Dennis

Just found this thread so why not post here. Hjorth 6" adjustable wrench I picked up at the flea. It was frozen up when found. After weeks of soaking (oops forgot it) and a lot of caked grease dug out, finally got it freed up and working.

Lots of owner marks unfortunately. It's stamped Hjorth Jamestown New York.

A quick Googling and looks like someone from Wm Hjorth left to form Crescent, also the H in BAHCO stands for Hjorth.

Can anybody tell me what these pliers were used for and what the value would be? They are Wm. Hjorth & Co Jamestown, NY Pat.Sept. 8 1903.

I use ePay's sold listings to help determine value. I also look at current listings, to see what they're not selling for.

The problem with selling on ePay is that shipping is often as much or more than the tools are worth. In reality, the combined price determines "value." Meaning, that's what someone paid.

William Hjorth's "combined pipe and nut wrench" (patent 738444) was marketed as "The Lightning" wrench

surprised I don't have an ad for that unit. there seems to be something of a dearth of documentation on this one. ITCL has a smattering:
Hjorth at ITCL
Hjorth at ITCL (the spring winder thingie is really interesting) (see below)

I'll have to see if I can find an ad for that unit... I'm sure there's one somewhere in an old "Iron Age" or something...

I have a couple of the spring winding tools, 2 different sizes. Haven't gotten around to using them yet, though.

Here are two more Hjorth 6" wrenches with different markings. They both say WM HJORTH & CO on one side and JAMESTOWN NY on the other. Note the two different font sizes. The bottom one is also marked with a 6 (for the size).
