I for some reason can not figure what this is used for. The female end measures 1/2" the male end measures 5/8". I have double checked this numerous times and cannot for the life of me understand why a Williams USA adapter has a 5/8" male end. Any help would be appreciated. Apologies for the crappy photos. My camera on my phone is not good. Thanks.

5/8" drive sockets were used in the Utility industry for a long time. Partially, to discourage pilferage (theft). This adapter would allow use of those sockets with the more common 1/2" components.
