What's peoples opinions of this set, it seems quite complete. I can't find info on what ratchets it comes with other than size though. It's a 146 piece 31/4,3/8 and 1/2' set. I was going to buy gearwrech 3/8 with the 1/4' set free and upgrade the ratchets and get a pneumatic 1/2" socket set but this seems like a good deal. Any other alternatives the set is around 300USD

For purposes of clarity, i posted the above link so, people would know what set you were talking about.

I think you could do better piecing a set together from other Taiwan made brands like Toptul or OEM Tools from mobile distributors supply.

If you're after a large set, there are plenty of asian made sets to choose from from Home Depot, Sears, & Lowes. Gearwrench has specials at many of the online tool stores too.

Buying off ebay can be beneficial too. Good Luck

Thanks. So with williams being taiwan you think there isn't much benefit in this verses other taiwan sets? I figured the ratchets would be better which means I would save having to get a separate 1/2" ratchet. Will be getting a 3/8 flex and long anyway no matter what socket set I buy

The Williams Taiwan sockets are top notch, and those sockets and ratchets are sold under Snap-on's Blue Point label as well.

The ratchets are the Taiwan version of the older Williams/Kobalt ratchets and are NOT fine tooth (1/4" is 36T, 3/8" is 38T and 1/2" is 40T), which would be a deal breaker for me on an import ratchet (since you can buy a 72T+ ratchet literally anywhere there are tools).

I think your original plan to go for the Gearwrench 3/8" set with the free 1/4" set, and impact 1/2" is the way to go.

Thanks heaps, that's what I was after. Yep not interested in the non fine tooth ratchets so would have to replace the ratchets anyway making it not so appealing anymore
