Hi all, I received a $10 off $50 for Amazon wharehouse deals. I purchased this bit set like new for $48 after coupon. I have craftsman USAs in a drawer. I always have trouble finding the bit I need and I broke a craftsman t15 which was replaced with a chicom one. Wondering if it was worth it? It will be easier to get the bit I need but are they better than the craftsman USAs? Williams 50681 1/4-Inch and 3/8-Inch Drive Bit Socket Set, 32-Piece https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005VMVFX8/?tag=atomicindus08-20

My neighbor decided on that set after using a couple of my Williams ratchets. He does alot with the T10 and T15 and no problems yet. I used a couple of the Torx and Hex and both seem to fit and grab the fastener better than my CMAN USA. Every piece I used also fit the ratchets really nice. Pieces all snap into the case almost too good, so very slim chance of pieces getting jumbled up. The set it self is also very shiny and will look cool on your bench. Hope this helps.

Pretty sure that's Taiwan made, if it matters. I think the USA made stuff have letter prefixes in part numbers. So with that said, is it still worth the cost? I've heard good things about ATD, Tekton and other similar sets that may be cheaper. I have Carlyle torx sockets that work really well. Also picked a cheap set of craftsman evolv torx sockets one day on clearance for $5 to keep in my trailer tool box and they've worked just fine the few times I've needed them to pull my stihl weedwacker apart.

Not saying that they are the exact same but with pieces like this you can hold them up against Blue-Point and easily convince yourself they are the same.

I've not been impressed by my Blue Point bit sockets which may well come from the same factory as these. I feel as tho the black oxide is so thick, once it scratches off (doesn't take long) the small sizes become sloppy. Night and day difference between these and my Snappies. The SO black oxide is a thin gray coating, very hard, doesn't scratch off.

The bits themselves aren't too terribly hard. I've already grr'd some of the smaller torx bits. I suspect the problem is twofold: 1) poor metallurgy, 2) poor fit - creates stress concentrations where instead of all the corners carrying load only a few do.

It's pretty much the Blue Point set on the Snap On truck for double or triple the price. It's pretty complete and worth the money in my opinion.

While we don't have 100% proof that they are the same I doubt they would have 2 different factories in Taiwan building a set for Williams and Blue Point separately. It would make the most financial sense that they are the same built in the same place just stamped different.

Agreed, but the moment you state that they are the exact same the next post will be asking, where's your proof, how do you know they are using the same metallurgy and heat treat, blah blah blah, wonk wonk wonk.

If you are interested in this set, or anything else on amazon for that fact. If you apply for the amazon visa you get an immediate $30 gift card to use on your first purchase.

It looks like a nice set. There is only one thing that would keep me from considering it. Bit sockets break, if you use them with any regularity get them from a place that's easier to get or exchange bits. Williams is among the most difficult major tool manufactures to exchange, and appears to be a no go for purchases off of amazon, which is apparently not an authorized retailer. If that's not a concern for you or you'd just as soon replace the ones that eventually give out with a better brand, then I'm sure it's a nice set for the sake of completeness. Long story short, if you're going for cheap, atd gets decent reviews, if you're going to use them a lot, buy what you can get locally.

Good points. OP wasn't asking for other brand recs, but like many I like VIM for high quality, easy warranty and good price. I've been told, though I haven't and wouldn't try, they can be warrantied on the Matco truck.

I can confirm first hand that amazon is NOT an authorized dealer, and you will be SOL if you break one, you will have to send the whole set back etc etc
