Hello. I'm collecting Williams open end wrenches and decided to register here for some help. This is not a classified or "wanted" so to speak so I'm not sure which forum this thread goes in.

Rather I'm looking to obtain an updated part number list of the wrenches or any basic knowledge that could be shared about these wrenches.

I figured it would be a fun and difficult hobby to locate them all, due to the confusing part number system the wrenches have as well as the unnecessary amount of wrench variations.

I found a list from a 1950ish? catalog which lists 46 wrenches in total, however I've seen or come across a few wrenches that were not listed in that catalog. I've marked the newer ones with a question mark.

Regular set:
-----------
1. 1020
2. 1720
3. 1721

42. 1039A
43. 1039C
44. 1040
45. 1041
46. 1041B

Total of 50 wrenches in the regular set so far that I'm aware exist.

2 Specialty Wrenches:
--------------------
1021S - Automotive Specialty Tool - Brake Wrench. Year: 1947-1954
1983 - Automotive Specialty Tool - Brake Wrench. Year: 1942-1945

5 Midget Wrenches:
-----------------
1106
1107
1108
1108A
1109

If anyone knows of anymore wrenches that could be added to this list, please let me know. Or if you have a newer catalog from the 60s or 70s which has an an updated list of the wrenches, that would be most helpful.

I know there's also a set of tappet open end wrenches which look very similar or infact the same only they are a touch longer. I first confused them with the regular open end set but the tappet wrenches have a part number starting at around 1090. I have yet to locate any type of part number list for these tappet wrenches.

I'll also add in the S wrenches eventually and maybe the angle wrenches

I'm only collecting the entire set 50+ wrench set of the ones from 1959 and newer. "Flat Shank" they are called, with the 3 lines on each side of the Williams logo. They look like this:

I already have 15 to 20 of these or so but it would take a long time to type it up which I'll do later in my spare time and/or perhaps post in the "Wanted" section for the ones I can't find or don't have, whenever I get around to it.

My difficulty so far was learning of wrenches that weren't listed in the catalog, such as the 1038 Open End Wrench. I didn't know that wrench existed until I saw one listed on eBay, but it was forged in the newer 90s style which I'm not interested in collecting. Does anyone know if the 1038 double open end wrench exists or not pre-1990s?

The previous wrenches from the 1952 series are pretty rare from what I gather anyway and it would likely be too difficult to locate all 50+ wrenches of the ribbed style because they were only produced for a short 7-year period of time in the 50s I believe. It's possible I suppose to get them all with time and effort, but I might only collect a basic set of those ones or at least it would be a start.

An 11 wrench, 22 different size set of the 1952-59 "Ribbed Shank" series sounds feasible to achieve. I only have one of these wrenches, 5/8 and 9/16. They look like this:

williams_oe1820_1727_wrench_ribbed_f_cropped_inset_w560_h167.jpg

1952-1959 Series "Ribbed Shank"
------------------------------
1. A1020
2. A1723
3. A1025
4. A1727 -- 5/8" x 9/16"
5. A1029
6. A1731
7. A1033A
8. A1735
9. A1037 -- 1 1/4" x 1 1/16"
10. A1039A
11. A1039C

I'll fill the rest of this list in later when I have time to type it but for now you can refer to the attachment for this 11 wrench series and their numbers

I believe the 1983 is a special brake wrench, similar to the 1021S.
I'm not sure how long they made these or how many different styles they made these specialty wrenches in. The one on Alloy Artifacts says it's from 1942 and looks like this:
http://home.comcast.net/~alloy-arti..._brake_alloy_v_f_cropped_inset2_w560_h165.jpg
Note that 1983 is not the year, rather the serial number.
Definitely an interesting piece.

The 1107 I gather is part of a 5-piece midget wrench set.
What style or year is yours in?

The catalog says the 1107 wrench is part of
5 Midget "Superrenches" Nos:
1106, 1107, 1108, 1108A, 1109.

Not sure if anymore midget wrenches exist but I'll search for some later.
I'll try to find a list of the tappet wrenches as well but it's been hard to find info on these things.

Tappet wrenches are generally longer and thinner (which might not be obvious unless you have one in your hand)

Those are not Serial No's you are looking at, they are model or part numbers.
