Williams/Kobalt old ratchet

i just got a old model Kobalt 3/8 drive that made by WIlliams. i had to got one so i can have similar with 3/8 and 1/2 drive ratchet.. but when i do ratchet test, it was rough and i had to torn it apart to clean it up to inspect it. it show that ratchet mechaical are ruin... so i am try to look for rebuild kit to put in... I will NOT turn it in to Lowes for ratchet warranty because lowes has all CHINA ratchets!!!!!

From what I've seen, the new ratchets at Lowes are made in Taiwan, not China.

Still, I'd be bummed, too. Those are cool ratchets.

Indeed the new 3/8" that I got in the 40 piece 3/8" kit I picked up for my road boxed (normally $50, on sale for $25 now) were made in Taiwan. Not as nice as my old Williams made ones.

I still need to find an old Williams made flex one #22801

Can't help you on the rebuild kit, but I hope you find one. I've got a 3/8 and 1/2 that came in a large set that my parents bought me years ago and they are my "go to" ratchets. Not fine tooth but still very nice.

I am going to pull a williams ratchet so i can look at it to see if it is similar.

i AM willing to search and inspect to see which it will fit... if not, i will hang it into my tool collection in my bedroom... it just 20 dollars for it...

Williams ratchets use completely different guts. They wont interchange with the old kobalt's (they are Taiwan as well).

However, if you call up Williams and tell them what you need, they sell (or did sell) the Kobalt rebuild kits for $8. I bought a couple from them a couple of years ago.

The Williams Kobalt was USA, the new Williams is Taiwan.

I have a sneaking suspicion the OEM for the new Kobalt Taiwan may be the same OEM as the new Williams Taiwan. I bought something in December, and I was looking through receipts yesterday and found that it says "JH Kobalt" and then the product/part #/etc. It's definitely not an original carry-over, unless someone made a mistake and entered JH again.

Yes, they do have a "USA" stamp. They are USA made. I had one recently. They just have a similar looking handle design to the import Williams/Blue Point.

Williams has both USA made and imported tools. For most tools, they have a USA made line and an imported line. Williams still has plenty of USA made ratchets, sockets, wrenches etc.

True. There is also Made in USA Kobalt stuff yet, though no ratchets/sockets/wrenches

Who cares where it is made. It was a US tool that was **** from what you say. How it is made makes the difference and Taiwan tools are getting very good. I like American made tools but if you can get as good of tool cheaper I don't care whare it was made. It is a global market and companies need to be competative on the world market. Stop taxing industry and bring the jobs back home is all I can say or live with the results. I have an old Mexican friend who was head of farming for one of the orange gove compnies here in SO CA. He did woodworking in Mexico before he moved here. He says they laughed at US made tools back in the 40's and 50's He said they were junk. He wanted German tools. Ain't that a hoot. All he does is sell tools. He is sharp and has a lot of good stories to tell.

No I don't. IIRC it was the warranty number from the Williams website. They have since changed their web site around. I'm sure they still have a customer service number somewhere on their page.

The USA Williams ratchets are not even quick release. They are the same as the snap-on 936 ratchets and defiantly will not work in a Kobalt. The best bet would be the Taiwan Williams ratchet, however I know from experience that they are very different designs.

Would you happen to have any suggestions on how to take this ratchet apart? I recently bought one like you have pictured that seems to be functioning OK, but I'd like to clean and lubricate it. I put some 3-in-1 oil around the edges of the base plate and let that get into the head, but I'd like to do a better job if I could. Thanks.
