I don't know about the new M52 (thought about emailing them), but the handle and all doesn't look ANYTHING like the old one (which I have been watching for, for some time, cheap).

I would email Williams and ask for either a photo of the rebuild kit, or of the ratchet disassembled.

Hmm, I count 46 clicks -- definitely not 72. Perhaps there's something wrong with mine? I did call Snap-on to ask. Still waiting on a response.

It's kind of disappointing how slipshod manufacturers are with their descriptions.

For what it's worth, I also bought a b-52a, and it's an absolutely great ratchet. Ridiculously smooth.

I understand, but a 36-tooth, double pawl should click 72 times, even if it's just 36 teeth, right? One click for each pawl?

The M52a is a single pawl 36 tooth. The B52a and S52a are dual pawl and sound like winding a watch. They are Facom design.
The older style (no a suffix superratchets) were dual pawl as well but felt a little coarser, still probably my favorite regular old ratchet though. I think they are tougher than the new design.

Strange, I counted 46 clicks several times on mine. It really irks me that all these manufacturers inaccurately state the specifications on their ratchets. Williams specifically cites the M-52a as being "dual pawl, 72 teeth."

In their web catalog, Blackhawk continues to claim that their polished handle ratchets are "dual pawl, equivalent to 86 teeth," which is completely false. When I got them on the phone, they admitted that it's really a 46 tooth, single pawl ratchet and that Blackhawk doesn't manufacture a single dual-pawl ratchet or any ratchet that can manage the 4.4 degree arc they claim. They apparently just pulled that product description completely out of their ***.

Totally bogus...

I have never held an M52a in my hands. I was jumping around on the tools delivered link from the other thread and it shows the M52a as single pawl 36 tooth 10 degree. The description appears to be straight out of the Williams catalog. I just now went and looked at the Williams catalog and the ad looks identical but says dual pawl. Bogus would be correct.

The new a style Facom design the B and S use click very easily and I would think that you would not have a problem counting clicks. The older style are a little tough to count with a stiff spring it will move two teeth at once unless you are very deliberate.

Los Angeles, stuck on the 60 freeway.
Today I pick up an SK Wayne 40970 from a flea for $6. Im now confused, because it has 60 teeth. Different from what others have said the 40970 had. Did someone put a different head in this one? Or is the SK Wayne a different breed completely?

By the way, it is incredibly smooth. Smoother than my 80tooth Williams RHFTs. I current have the s53, s52, and b52. I'm not regretting not finding an m52 at all right now.
