Correct and they are not made in the USA, they are made in Canada

Hmmm....are the snap on labeled boxes Chinese origin? Reason I ask is that even if it is supposed to be an exact copy there is sure to be some quality issues with 'em.

Boy, that seems like a heck of a deal.

mds, what problems have you heard about? Just curious, not like I'm going to buy one soon...

Have not heard of any problems issues with that box. I had made that statement in the tool sense of comparing another certain big box retailer that when their products had their production shifted to china from the states the difference in fit/finish is very noticeable. Snap on is very guarded with their name and they have a strong reputation. With that being said I would hope that they would not have the snap on box made in Iowa (I believe...?) and then market a "duplicate" box made on China with the only difference supposedly being the Williams nameplate.

oh sorry. I just assumed the were Made in USA because the catalog says made in USA?

http://www.snaponindustrialbrands.c...trialbrandscom/Content/PDF/SOIB - CAT2 33.pdf
So does Snap-On's site for the same box...

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=storage&item_ID=650741&group_ID=681720&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

But I actually own that box and it's clearly labeled made in Canada

BTW - On that note, the box is OK but not worth full retail IMO (not even at Williams pricing) IMO. The drawer slides are made in China and not very good quality. The only real advantage it has over the typical import box is the size, specifically depth. No, it's not the full 24" depth of the more expensive boxes but at 20" depth, its better then the typical 16" depth that most less expensive boxes have.

Any body have experience with the Williams road boxes, heres a link to one branded Williams http://www.ebay.com/itm/JH-WILLIAMS-HEAVY-DUTY-ROAD-BOX-TOP-CHEST-26-5-DRAWER-/140321881069?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20abd5fbed and here"s a link to what appears to be the same box branded SPG http://www.ebay.com/itm/380838878670?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649.

It'll be loaded with tools and used and beat like a rented mule. Just curious what any ones experience is with them.

I don't recall off the top of my head but within the last 10 years

The KRA series used to be made in Canada. I had one that was 5-10 years old and was. The new ones are made in the USA. I'm not sure when the change happened, but I'm sure somebody here knows and will chime in.

I wasn't impressed with my KRA. I'd just as soon buy one of the top of the line Craftsman boxes honestly. You'd be way better off looking for a good deal on a used KRL, IMO.

Proto has some nice USA boxes in your price range :dunno: Drawer slides are Mexico if it makes a difference.

Where is the williams w40rc7 made? A knowledgeable person told me it was made in Canada. Is this accurate?

Tim

As stated earlier kra production was shifted from Canada to the USA. I think it was about the time the classics came out. You can also buy a kra 4107/4114 from a case IH, NH or cat dealer with said brand's logo on it.
