I'm sure there are some people on here who may know more about this ratchet. Picked up three of them - BS-71 1/2", and matching 3/4" and 1/4" this weekend at a garage sale. Covered in light rust but in great shape. Looked online to see if I could determine the age, but all I can find is this without any date info:

(Scroll to mid page Figure 323)

I've narrowed it down to between 1930 and 1980 :lol_hitti

Anyone know about when this model was made? Thanks!

Funny but a few weeks ago I had just that model in 1/2" drive in my hands, but I decided that I had too many ratchets and put it down and walked away...(nerves of steel on my part). Not sure of the age but it had a nice dark patina just like the aa picture.

I have run out of room and my wife is thinking after the first 100 hammers and the first 100 ratchets,100 screwdrivers, etc she would kill me... So I guess I am a blasphemer big time!

Yeah, I took all three apart and put them in some evaporust to get the surface rust off of them. Then I thought about brushing them off on a wire wheel but they have such a cool black/grey patina that I thought I better find out more about them before I do anything else. I think reassembly with some Superlube and that's it!
