Williams S-57 Torque Wrench

I picked this up at a yard sale a couple years ago and forgot I had it until I started moving stuff from the old tool boxes to my new Kobalt boxes. I stuck it into a box I rarely ever go into and forgot about it. I have no idea if works and would like to know if it can be checked and recalibrated if necessary and what it’s worth. Can’t remember what I paid for it for sure, but $10 is ringing a bell.

That is one nice piece. I've got a couple of them also. Shouldn't go out of calibration unless abused.'

They do feature both sight and sound for measurement.

I remember that mine went for under $30 when I got them.

I have got an S-58A that is slightly bent so it always reads 10Lbs, can I bend it back to 0? Does anyone have an Idea on age of these things?

I have an S57 that I picked up on eBay a while back. I like it a lot; it's well made and it is balls-on accurate. The sight/sound thing is no gimmick, either... there are times when one is better than the other.

I think they date back to the 1970's, but I'm not sure.

My Snap-On addict buddy checked it against his new click wrench at three different torque settings and it was right there with the $300 Snap-on. Good enough for me.

I'm raising this threads corpse to add a little more info on these neat torque wrenches. I found one at the Portland swap meet last weekend along with a 3/4" Ammco and tonight I had a little more time to look the Williams over a little closer. I got a pleasant surprise when I found the original sales receipt and the instruction sheet sealed up in a zip lock bag and packed in the case. A few pics which pretty much tell the tale. This one sold in 1964 for a little more than it cost now in 2018. None the worse for wear. Ed.

That said, it’s always fun to see the old handwritten receipts.

Those Measurrenches are quite possibly the most stylish torque wrenches ever made. If I ever found one I think I'd put it on my coffee table. Beautiful find, ORC.
