I may have a chance to get one for no more than 15 bucks. It looks practically unused, ill post the only pic of it, want to be sure its an actual super ratchet. Good deal or no?

I actually just noticed it would almost cost that in gas to go get it, haha. So im out on it unless i could make a decent profit, or if someone wanted it bad enough i could go pick it up.. for a small fee :)

Referencing my TRW J. H. Williams Division Catalog 309 from 1978, there were several different versions of this style ratchet.
  • M-52 - 1/4" Reversible Ratchet - 5" Long. 45 teeth in Ratechet-gear. Shift-lever reverses action instantly.
  • B-52 - 3/8" Reversible Ratchet - 7-5/8" Long. Concentric type Mechanism of 82 tooth action permits rotation of nuts in close quarters. Shift lever reverses action.
  • B-54 - 3/8" Flex Head Ratchet Same mechanism as B-52. Handle flexes 90* either way from horizontal. 10-1/2" long.
  • S-52 - Reversible Ratchet - 11-1/4" long. 82 tooth action. Snifter reverses action instantly.
  • S-52L - Linemen's Reversible Ratchet - 11-1/4" long, 82 tooth action. Special shifter for operators using gloves.
  • S-52LC - Linemen's Reversible Ratchet - 11-1/4" long. Same as S-52L with Cementex insulated handle up to head.
  • S-53 - Reversible Ratchet - 15" long. Has same fine mechanism as S-52 Ratchet.


The S-52 shows up all the time on ebay and the B-52 is moderately common also. All of the others are quite rare and can fetch a good amount of money for a 70s ratchet. The S-52 and B-52 were common in the set they sold so there must be a lot floating around. I don't think 1/4" drive is sold much through industrial channels so they don't show up too much.

Tip for finding these through search. The M-52, B-54, S-52LC don't have Superratchet stamped into them so they won't show up if you use the term Superratchet. (Let me know if I'm wrong here!)

The Superratchets that end with an 'A' are more modern versions and I think they are imports.

The -a suffixes are the newer updated versions. The -a versions of B and S have 72 teeth and the M has 40 teeth. They are still USA made.

The m52 does not have supperratchet stamped on it. I think the reason is that there is no room to stamp it on the 1/4 sized handle, lol. It is also a 45t single pawl design. Whereas the b and s series have the double pawl design.
