I have an old pre Snap On Williams extension with a detent ball that is stuck inside and resisted PB Blaster, heat, banging and picking at the ball. I started looking for a replacement It is S110P, 1/2" drive and measures 5 1/2" long. According to an old catalog I found online, it is listed as 5 1/2". I discovered SO/ Williams is still using the same part number but it is now 5". Is this downsizing, like candy bars? LOL!!

warranty? See what that old catalog has to say?
The original Williams company went out if business a long time ago. The assets were liquidated. There was nothing left. Snap On acquired the name. The new Williams warranty barely covers the stuff Snap On makes. It must be bought from an authorized Williams dealer and returned to that dealer for warrany claims. That clearly does not cover old Williams that I bought from a long gone hardware store. On the other hand, SK, now owned by Ideal is standing behind SK tools made by a series of companies that owned SK. Williams also makes two lines with different model numbers, US and imported. The old Williams was not pretty and was aimed at the industrial market but it was tough, exempting my extension.

Stuck? Like it won't press inward? If so, put it in the vise... I've done that on old ones that were stuck and it works perfect. Then you can start blasting out the **** behind it for the next 2 months every time you use it

Stuck the other way. Fully pressed in, deep, and won't pop back out. The ball probably has a burr on it. I was thinking of drilling a small hole, from the back, to push it out but the spring is probably shot and it would be a waste of time. It is hardly worth much effort for a 10 buck extension and I have a 5" SK.

might sound crazy; but see if you can get some water trapped on the spring side of that ball, and then put it in the freezer.. Lots of pushing power when ice expands. If it even seems to budge; add more water and do it again.

Right now it is soaking in PB Blaster. I took the opposite of your idea and heated the end with a torch, thinking the extension would expand and release the ball. I'm not sure water could get past the ball but I might just give it a try. Thanks.

Hope the PB works. The freezing water idea is interesting, though.

Yeah, it's a shame what happened to the Williams Co.

I drilled out from the back on a nice Wizard ratchet to fix a similar problem, but I'm with you in that I don't do it with extension bars because it's not worth the time and effort to me. Could be the spring is busted and a piece of it is jammed up next to the ball.

Good luck with it. If you're successful in freeing it, post it.

another strange thing I have heard is to heat it in a microwave .....BUT submerge it is water in a non-metallic container first. Something about the water prevents any sparking, but the metal will still heat up.
Think I saw AvE do this on youtube.
