I’m really digging the Williams SuperCombos and the chromd vs the black version is a pretty substantial price difference and I’m not 1 to need bright and shiny stuff. I can’t for the life of me find any detailed pictures on the black sets finish through. Are they satin, flat, polished? Is it powder coated or rattle canned? If anyone has them please let me know

If they're anything like Snap-on black wrenches, they'll feel exactly like a phosphate coated impact socket, but with a slight more texture. They're a night and day difference from chrome. In oily environments where a chrome wrench is always slipping out of your hands, they'd be ideal.

the smaller supercombos tend to spread easily. its a shame too because i love the beams.its the reason i sold mine.

That’s what I’m trying to find out because the pictures on snap ons website they appear to have a gloss, but the picture is so bad it’s really hard to tell

I have the yellow ones, and they are plenty grippy, feels much more like a powder coat than a paint.

Can you attach a pick so I can get a general idea and also do you have the same issue with the open end spreading on the smaller sizes as mentioned before?

I've got chrome wrenches, the beam is very nice. Black oxide is likely the finish, same as industrial Snap-on. It will rust if not cared for, just so you're aware.

They do tend to get heavy as they get bigger, weight wise, not really an issue for the most part. Never really had a problem with the open end spreading. They will leave chew marks on hardware, if that's important. These and the MCL series Matco wrenches are my favorites.

Another thing to note is that the thick beam USA made Supercombos have lobster claw open ends, while the Taiwan made combos have the open end and beam profile nearly identical to Snap-On combos.

They may look like a lobster claw, but they're not nearly as bad. I have yet to run into a place where the OE would not fit.

Would love a pic of these as I've always wondered what they looked like. All the pics I've seen on the web just don't show them well.

Does the yellow wear off?

I have a set of yellow Supercombos and in my case the yellow finish is not what I could call great for durability. It doesn't fall off by any means, but nicks and chips will show up with use. Here's a pic of the open end of the 3/4. Of course the most wear will happen in the open end jaws, but I thought I'd show what the metal looks like underneath the powdercoat. I guess the yellow powdercoat is an ok finish, but they won't look pretty for very long. I got them since I got the set (3/4 to 1-1/4) for about $125, so I can live with the finish.

For fun I also took a pic of the open end beside a Taiwan made Williams 3/4 and a Wrightgrip 3/4.
