For Williams stuff I have some wrenches that came in duplicate in a Williams-Bahco box with sizes(Apparently list price for the box was $697.92, pretty good deal for free):

5/16"
7/16"
5/8"
3/4"
13/16"
1-3/16"

11MM
15MM
17MM
34MM

And then I bought an older Williams 1-1/2" Combi from a PS.

Ahh, those would be SnapOn/Williams model numbers. I was wondering if Williams had produced a Superrench in metric pre SnapOn (prior to 1993). :headscrat

Don't think snap on owned them at this time. I got the numbers from the catalog. No date in the catalog, but the price sheet says effective September 7, 1976

Interesting.
Those metric numbers are the same as what SnapOn uses. SO didn't buy out the Williams assets until 1993. I wonder how two separate companies (at the time of your catalog) ended up using the same numbering system. Especially since Williams was using something different for their SAE wrenches. I think I need to do some more digging. :headscrat

In the meantime, here's a link to a GJ thread that has a link to an older PDF catalog.

3Bay: the Williams board wasn't mine officially when i posted, but it is now. have you seen a similar board full and can you post a picture or a link to a web site? i was hoping it was for wrenches because i have a drawer full of Williams. i also have some 3/4 inch sockets and a 3/4 inch Williams ratchet that might fit on it nicely too.

no room to hang it and didn't need it, but that wasn't why i bought it i don't think. :D

When I was fabricating my own combo wrench board I used the Williams catalog in the linked thread for reference.

It also has a picture of the populated 3/4" drive socket board - I took a snippet out.

What I'd like to know is how to describe the various finishes of the Superrench line - I'm trying to complete my set of the "flat panel three bar satin finish" (???) but also have a few "raised lettering cast finish" and have seen "raised panel" as well!

cheers

ALL: do we have a Williams thread on their sockets and wrenches or is this it for now? i've got a drawer full of Superwrenches and thought they were almost new until reading this thread.

are they really 30 years old or is Williams still making them? i picked up a nice old set of Williams sockets about a year or maybe 2 ago from an 85 year old client and i do like that it has the 32 nd's in the set.

i'll have to check my wrenches but i do have some in metric and some BIGUNS too.

i'll post pictures here or if anybody can post the link to the Williams thread i'll post them there.

Marty: nice find as per usual. finding anything lately?

Jake: thanks for posting up the list

Williams is still being offered. I believe the new production uses a single line and plain print logo. It's now owned by SnapOn and sells as a "bargain" brand even though the quality appears to be the same as previous offerings. The brand wasn't well known among Auto Mechanics. It was (and still is) marketed more towards Industrial Mechanics and Machinists (like Proto). For this reason, many resellers tend to underprice them at yard sales and flea markets (ebay is it's own little circle of hell (Dante's 10th perhaps ?) and plays by it's own rules when pricing).

Drives - I don't think there is another thread like this for Williams sockets, DOE's, or DBE's. It would be nice if someone could put together another list of part numbers for those though.

I started a "Show your Williams" thread a long time back, it's hidden in the pages but I'll see if I can find and bump it.

Thanks for the list Jake, I built a complete set up to 1-1/4" and have a couple larger but not in order.

I grabbed a bundle of three different brands of larger sized wrenches off ebay this week, just to get a three-line 1-5/16 for my set. I didn't realize it until the auction was over that they were being offered by Balane. GJ is a small world with a large reach. I think we need a secret handshake to cut down on the confusion.

I have several of the three line, the blk bxoe and a few of the other styles that are duplicates . If anyone is looking for your personal collection, send me a pm and we'll see if we can make a deal.

It's not the reach around that you have to worry about. : lol_hitti

Yard Sale finds are becoming sparse this time of year, so this week I did a little "ebay therapy" to get my Williams fix. Here's what showed up today.

A complete set of Williams combo ignition wrenches in the original roll. Pre-SnapOn. :D
and a #1194 2-1/4" triple-line wrench. That's a size 10 shoe in the picture, the wrench is 27-3/4" long. :bounce:

I've got an 1-5/8 on the way as well. I may be retail drunk. :willy_nil

Jake: nice finds. Since Nines williams thread is 3 years old and this thread is more on a particular set Marty found would you be willing to start a show your williams thread? I will take pics and post up pictures to help get it started if you start it. You'd be a great host because you know a lot of the markings and ages.

Thanks

Thanks Jake, I think I need to update some links to my pics , I see they are not showing for some reason. The problem with moving my thread, it has a lot of new Williams in it too. People showing their hard handle screwdrivers and new Taiwan ratchets/sockets etc. I still want a set of those hard handles and definitely one of the ratcheting screwdrivers.
That said, I don't are where the thread is at, I rarely go to specific sections to read threads, I linger in the new posts when on my computer and participated on my phone.

BTW, nice ignition wrench set too, I have (the same?) one like it.

Okay so this whole triple-line thing is I am guessing the two sets of lines either sides of the words?

If so I have a complete total of 2 of these wrenches. haha :willy_nil

But my second question is, the wrenches look basically identical except for the model numbers one being: XOE-822 - 11/16 Combi and the other being: 1178 - 1-1/2" combi

That's a 6. The XOE-622 is a 6 point 11/16 combination wrench. The equivalent 12 point wrench is the 1165.

The model numbers generally go sequentially up as the sizes get bigger. Sometimes there is an A for an intermediate size (1167A is 13/16)

Stubby wrenches also get a different moniker.

Here is an older Superrench i picked up today in great shape. Now I need to find more of these. What does the V stand for? Alloy artifacts just states it as V code. Maybe I didn't delve in deep enough to the site and code stamps are stated elsewhere.

Marty: maybe the V is a maker's mark like the V on Craftsman tools? sorry my memory can't recall who that maker is, but checking Craftsman tool threads might be another place for you to search.

have a great 2016 and hope the new (old) house is about done so you can get back to posting all the cool old tools you seem to find.

Nice looking wrench there Marty! From what I've gathered from the AA site they hadn't figured out what the forged in "V" markings or other code markings stood for. But i can tell you that by looking at the style of logo and the "alloy" marking on your wrench that your wrench was most likely a 1945-1947 production wrench. Hope this helps you out some and good luck finding more. Don't forget to post them here if you find some. :)
