Hello,

I acquired a very lightly used Wilton 1740 and now have questions. I've searched and found some answers, but others not so lucky.

Questions are,
  • Slide key is stamped 8 90, is that date of manufactured , or date of warranty expiration?
  • the arrowhead is the marking for the Blackhawk forge in Ohio? I read that in another post here (ref. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/11b30b4s-wilton-1740-refresh.477089/)
  • What does the 2 under the arrowhead indicate?
  • Red base coat implies snap on? Red base coat is the only way to confirm it was snap on?
  • There was no thrust washer on the spindle? was that not included on this vise originally?

I cleaned it up with the wire wheel and painted, final result

What I know to your questions:

Date of manufacture not warranty in this new of a bullet.
Red could indicate a Snap On vise. You can buy the stick on Snap On plates off of ebay.
I don't believe my version of this vise had a washer.

Welcome and nice job.

Was one pipe jaw the older style? If it's older I'm not sure Snap-on was badging them back that far. Not saying they weren't either though. Just I've never seen one.

Kind of looks like factory gray color under there as well...

Based on what looks like red paint under the top coat I'm saying Snap On. Looks great Squirrel! Get ya a couple of Snap On badges and stick 'em on.
