I have this Wilton 3" machinist vise that I'm working on. It seems longer than a previous 3" machinist vise that I owned a few years ago, but later sold. Did Wilton make different versions of the 3" machinist vise? The other one was a Chicago vise, while this one is a Schiller Park vise, if that makes a difference.

Schiller Park vise that I'm currently working on. It's 13.5 inches long.

Here is the Chicago vise that I bought in the 1990's and later sold.

There was a 3HD model back in the day that was bigger and heftier than the normal 3 inch model. Do you see any HD markings cast in?
Here is my 3 HD
It’s on a shelf with a 350 for scale.

No 3HD on this vise. Only 9300 cast on the other side of the static jaw.

Here's a better picture of the 3" that I sold years ago. It has 930 in that spot. What does 930 mean?

930 means it’s a 3 inch machinist vise. Many times you’ll see 930 on one jaw tower and 830 on the other. Why Wilton did that I don’t know. Maybe a more knowledgeable expert will chime in.

You’ve got a very nice vise there that you already sold...looks to be still in original paint. To me and many others, that’s valuable.

It could just be longer. Pretty sure some vise models varied a little on sizes like that if you compare models that are decades apart.

A 4" version would be a 9400, etc etc.

That gray one with the original paint I paid $45 for in the 1990's. Sold it years later without realizing how valuable original paint was. The jaw inserts on it were pristine too.
