Hello all...

So it's been some time since I posted on here but I have still have been lurking and learning...:)

I'm finally getting ready to finish my vintage Wilton 450S. It was quite funky after many years so I took it to the maintenance hangar at work the other day. It spent about two hours in the "Cuda" parts washer which removed many years of grime, grease and much of the old paint. It then went back and forth between the Cuda tank and the dip tank to remove the rest of the paint and any stubborn paint was media blasted off. It came out quite nice and all the lettering looks as fresh as the day it was cast.

I also had the anvil milled down slightly to get rid of years of hammering. It will be going into the electrolysis tank in a week or two to get rid of the rust that still exists and then I will finish it up.

All the other parts including the new jaws were sandblasted and then gun blued. I will be using the vice on my armorers bench in my office so it will be very pretty...LOL.

I do have a question though...

I will be painting it with a 2K epoxy rust cure primer and then spraying the color coat which will be gray. It's the same paint used on the components on the helicopters I fly at work. It's a Dupont Imron paint and when done I'll post pics as well as the color code if anyone wants it.

I was wondering what everyone likes to use after it comes out of the electrolysis bath nice and clean to prevent flash rust before painting?

I was leaning towards "Rust Bullet Metal Blast" if you guys think that will work well with the epoxy primer.

Thanks!

I usually hit my stuff with WD-40 because it comes off pretty easy with mineral spirits. I always use mineral spirits before I lay down primer, because it does a good job of cleaning any oils and such off of whatever I'm wanting to prime. I've seen that Rust Bullet Metal Blast used before, and it works relatively well, but all the stuff I've seen it used on was painted in short order (just after the metal blast dried).
