As the title says, this is a Wilton 450SJ, 4.5" jaws with a rear swivel jaw and swivel base that I just found, and haven't done anything to other than wipe it off for the pictures.
I'm not in a rush to move it, but I have a pile of vises lined up for restoration, and already have a 450SJ, so it's down the list a ways. I know how rare these are, so I thought I'd offer it up here and if not, I'm going to restore it and put it on eBay.
To do it justice it would need new jaws, new swivel locks (or at least handles for them) and a new handle, then the usual strip, prime, paint, etc but it will be spectacular when finished.
The swivel pin won't come out with finger pressure, but I tapped the swivel jaw lightly with a hammer, and it moves slightly back and forth, so that means the swivel jaw could be removed from the body (remove the cross pin and pivot bolt) without much trouble. At that point getting the pin out shouldn't be a problem.
I looked it over pretty carefully, and it's actually in pretty good condition. There is a small chunk missing under one of the jaws....looks like something in the jaws moved and bit into that part a bit. I can take pictures of that if you want more detail. There are no cracks or anything significant like that....some file marks on the jaw supports, the usual minor dents and dings, etc.
An interesting note is that the date stamp on the slide appears to be a factory mistake. It says "Guar Exp 12-30-66" and that isn't likely correct since most of the experts are now saying they stopped the 5-year guarantee program in 1960.
Shipping would be additional...no more than exactly what it costs to box and get it to you. I would probably look to separate it into two manageable boxes that are less likely to get damaged, and easier to protect...not sure if that's the least expensive method, but that's something we can discuss. I've had two large/heavy vises dropped during shipping, and I suspect much of that was the boxes were just heavy enough drivers struggled with them.
I would also drive roughly an hour to meet you rather than ship it....use 48111 zip code for a ballpark distance.
I should point out that I didn't get it cheap and it took several hours of driving to get it, so the price is firm. I don't say that to sound mean, I just don't want us wasting our time if it's not the right deal for you.
