I have an early style Wilton 500 that I need to have a handle built for it. Anyone have the size measurements for it? If you own one, could you measure the diameter and length please?

Thank you

vonhef, I made one for my 500S and here is my drawing I took off the original handle. Wilton peened the knobs on cold but I like using heat. Good luck.

Thanks Hemi for your kind offer.

KMScott... It can't get more specific than your answer. Thank you very much!

The measurements on the drawing above must be for a later model than mine. I had to use 5/8" diameter shaft. I also cheated by welding two pieces of heavy pipe over the ends for the knobs. Simple... But it worked!

I'm curious - what kind of steel would be appropriate for the handle? Any old mild steel, or something specific?

And while we're on the subject of making vise parts, I need to make a new screw for my Wilton Mechanic's Vise. The original has no relief for the threads, but on my South Bend that will be difficult to achieve. If I put in a relief section, will I compromise the strength of the screw? And would 1144 (Stressproof) be appropriate?
