Wilton 645 maybe?

Newbie here. Is this a Wilton 645? Are the cracks on both sides of the moving jaw worth worrying about? Is there a source for a replacement decal, and if so, what is the contact information?

After having conducted more research I see that this is not a 645 vise. I have searched the archives and cannot find any information about these Wilton vises that just have the sticker. I assume these were made for multiple companies and that they could attached their own brand name sticker?

I apologize if I have made a mistake in my first post. If anyone has any information about this vise I would appreciate you sharing it. Thanks.

Wilton has one of the best reputations in vises, but not all Wiltons are "WILTONS". Open screw vises don't get much respect on this Forum. Look up "The Vises of Garage Journal" in the "General Tool Discussion" forum. More information than you can ever imagine.

Your particular vise is a Wilton's Home Vise from the (1970's-1980's). Although they were made in the USA, it was Wilton's lightest-duty vise that they sold at the time.



It's not really what I would call a collectible vise, and being really light-duty would make me wonder if doing anything to it would make financial sense.

You came to the right place for vise information and maybe you could educate yourself a little from this site about vintage vises and find a more suitable vise to restore, use or both. There's a lot of really good deals out there yet.

Thanks! Nice photo. I wanted a lighter duty vise to sharpen chain saws in the field. The little stump clamp that you drive into a log or stump wasn’t doing it for me. Because I want portability, I wanted the lighter weight. I will probably just replace the screw handles, we will see about paint. I am aware of the trailer hitch mount for bench vises, but I want to be able to move to the shade to sharpen if I want to. I plan on using a Black & Decker workmate to mount the vise on.

My father-in-law is a retired machinist and I have a line on two large vises that will probably need electrolysis to restore. He has also got me more interested in vintage tools.

I have my light one on a chunk of 4x6, bolt heads recessed in the bottom, and a 2x2 rail, mounted longitudinaly on the bottom, that I clamp in the WorkMutt jaws. The extra few inches of height helps. Mass added isn't bad either.
