So I just saw this ad on eBay....standard 1765 for $245 with free ground shipping, but it's coming from Canada, so you'd have to sort out the import details.

If I could get a couple at this price I'd buy them just to resell them!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-W...661778?hash=item465caeab92:g:PtYAAOSw9GhYgpQ~

My guess is no duty out of Canada as they were made in USA, if they were China I think your looking at 4.7%, kind of makes no sense.

Note it appears that exposure on GJ is proportional to eBay sales?

I resisted. I might regret that later, but I still haven't mounted the 1755 that I got a month ago and I am also dumping a lot of cash into TIG stuff right now.

I believe that listing started yesterday? Appears they sold 32 vises.

Red

He listed it, sold a bunch and closed the ad. He listed it again, and then sold 32 the second time.

I was going to buy two of them, but didn't expect it to end that quickly. I figured I would pay with Paypal, and if it was a scam, I'd get my money back.

Since the COO is the U.S. I'm not sure import duties would apply, but the guide I found shows 5% import tax on vises, which wouldn't have been bad at all.

This is odd. I just checked to see if he listed more vises and his other items, a couple transfer pumps and an IR thermometer, have disappeared.

Back on track of this original thread; the lowest price for the 75th anniversary bundle seems to be holding @ $335 w/$9 shipping thru coastal and I have purchased 2 of these from them w/NO issues what so ever. FWIW

I'm confused. Is the vise COO USA? and what's the diff. between the tradesman and machinist vise?

... what's the diff. between the tradesman and machinist vise?

The machinists vise are about twice the weight and twice the opening of the tradesman vise if the same jaw width. They don't have the pipe jaws.

The C-0 through C-3 vises seem to be the same size/weight/opening as the Machinists vises, but have the pipe jaws and are a bit taller as a result.

The Tradesman line is quite different from the Machinist line. The Tradesmen will usually open up about the same amount as their jaw width, so a 1750 will have 5" jaw and open 5". A 500S Machinist will have 5" jaws and open 8". The 1750 would weigh 50lbs. A 500S weighs about 90lbs.

They changed the Tradesman line so they now have 4 1/2", 5 1/2", 6 1/2" and 8" jaws rather than all even sizes from before....models are now 1745, 1755, 1765 and 1780.

The Tradesman line also used compressed metal powdered jaws rather than tool steel and the swivel base doesn't have an inner ring so it's not as precise, or secure.

The Combination vises actually open up a bit less than the Machinist models (by about 1") and weigh more for the same jaw width. A C2 has 5" jaws that open 7" and it weighs 100lbs. The crazy one is the C3 which weighs 200lbs, which is 50lbs more than a 600S!

Is usatoolwarehouse another one of Coastal's faces?

I would say YES but they have 23 years worth of business and an A+ BBB rating, much better than the ebay scammer that scammed forum users in the other Wilton thread recently, IMHO
If you click the BBB link on the bottom of their page it comes up but for some reason I cant add a link here? YMMV

.....so if I wanted one for my shop should I pass on this 75th anniversary deal and wait for a deal on a machinist model? I actually won a contest last year and got a new Irwin vise but it's chinese so I haven't really used it. I like to find old vises personally that were US made. I have a couple Colombia's and a Reed in the garage but nothing over 6" jaw size.

The 75th anniversary Tradesman is a 5.5" wide jaw, and it sounds like you already have something in that size range if you're saying you don't have anything "over 6" jaw"?

The 1755 Tradesman isn't that big of a vise really. They list the shipping weight at 52lbs, so the vise actually weighs a bit less....call it 50lbs.

I weighed an older Wilton 4" jaw machinist vise early today and it was right at 50lbs. Smaller jaws, but bigger in almost every other area.

For general shop use the 1755 is a great vise for most folks, but it's hard for anybody else to say whether it's the right vise for you.

If anything, it probably comes down to how important pipe jaws are to you.

Anyone have a zoro code or coupon? Or and discount available from the other sellers listed in this thread? Thanks

Whats the best price on the anniversary setup lately? A 1755 with a Bash hammer for $335 shipped is the best I can find. Anybody else got a source?

Just got mine in the mail. Packing was horrible and the vise was ripping through the box. The box actually had newspaper in it but the vise only suffered minor scrapes. $287 delivered to your door from JB Tool Sales off ebay. Their communication is total **** and they do not answer questions. Oh well, all ended well.

2nd. the Wilton packaging, this spring I looked at the 6 1/2 Tradesman at one store. They had 3 boxes, one was pretty bad with the handle sticking out. The other 2 boxes were less damaged.

Bought the Tradesman at a different store, box looked good but the Wilton sticker was bent from the vise rolling around and the end cap has bare metal from rubbing against the box.

Since I got a deal on it, I am not too concerned. You would think, they could package them better or have touch up paint available. Didn't bother to put the decal on it

I can get one of these for $335. Is that a decent deal? I don’t need the hammer, but it’s a nice perk...

My honest opinion the hammer is way better than the vise. I bought that combo a few years ago and the vise is Chinese and half the weight of a similar size Wilton I have on my service truck. The hammer is nice though, made in Mexico but nice. I named it El Whacko .

I think you are referring to the mechanics vise and not the tradesman. The tradesman is still made in the USA. I paid right at $300 shipped for my combo last year. It came with a 1755 tradesman and bash hammer.

Mine just arrive for $320 (delivered) from ntxtools after some shipping issues. So, decent deals are still out there. The tail end was a little scuffed of course, but otherwise everything looked really good. You would think they could just stick a piece of painters tape on there to protect it.

I did meet the UPS driver out front during delivery to make sure it didn't get dented up at my doorstep. He's not the biggest guy, and he was cussing while dragging it down the stairs of the truck before he saw me.

Makes my FPU seem even smaller than it already did...

Can't believe they still have these available. I was looking at getting one of these two years ago but never did. Since then I've been looking at different vises such as the Rigid F-series as well as some of the cheap ones available in stores but decided that I should just get a good one such as this and be done with it. Just ordered mine a few minutes ago for $346 from JB Tools via Amazon. Should be here Wednesday. Can't wait to finally have a vise that I can use.

Oddly enough, this black version of the 1755 appears to be as much as 10 pounds lighter than the standard green model. I wonder if it’s a cheaper, more hollow casting.

Someone actually weighted those two side by side or is this based off of some shipping weight? I have shipped several of the 75th black ones so I have their weight to see...this ebay auction reference 49 lbs for the green version, the black one was about exactly the same, if memory serves but I can ck my fedex records.

I used mine again today. It's a fine vise. My only gripe is the damn Wilton label falls off like that's its job. One of these days I'll fix that...
