I am in the process of refurbishing my dad’s Wilton 8-635L bench vise and am wondering what this particular piece is used for (see attached photo to see what I am pointing to) Any insights? Thank you!

That is called a "hardy", and you lay a bolt, or a rod over it and whack the bolt/rod with a hammer to cut it in two. I've never seen one on a Wilton before. I think it's probably kinda rare. Does the hardy have a part number on it?

Thank You! I suspected it was something like that....there is no part number on it. I found the “hardy” in a drawer near my dad’s workbench and it wasn’t until some months later that I figured out that it fit perfectly in the hole of the Wilton vise.

I think most got lost as the years went by, I have a shop king like yours but it's been abused, basically a parts vise. BTW, the Hardie is for hot cutting, like a blacksmith not cold stock
