Wilton 835 year and color

Have an 835 vise I recently bought and decided to restore. Have checked all over but can't find what year it was made and just want to clarify color too.
Shows 835 and 101020 on it but unfortunately there is no stamping on the keyway. There are some numbers in the bottom of the end cap. First number is either a 3 or 9
903129 is what it looks like.
Is hammertone verde green my best bet??

Also picked up a snap on edition wilton recently!

The devil is in the details. I've only seen the circled foundry mark on the Wilton no. 350 vise with date-stamps from (1972-1974).

Thank you!!! I googled that but couldn't get anything to pop up regarding the mark.
So this would mean the hammered verde green is the most accurate color? I believe I read it was used for 70s+

Also, I have another question. There are 4 small holes/spots in the Anvil. Is this a sign it's been machined too much?

You vise was born in January of 1973. The stamp is on the slide, you just have to blow the picture up.

That's pretty funny! I just assumed the slide was blank and never even enlarged it to look for the date-stamp. I'd debate you on the date-stamp being "born in" vs. "5-year guarantee" though.

In general, I refuse to believe in absolutes and that includes my vise theories. I'd always encourage everyone to do research on their own and formulate their own opinion. I'm very open minded to changing my theories, based on better information being presented to me.

Yeah, that's a beautiful restoration. Since we're talking about Wilton date-stamps, based on the two circled features in the photo, my database strongly implies that the date-stamp on your Wilton no. 400 is circa (1976-1978).

After the post I realized the other Newer overseas wilton I took apart is the one that has no markings. My mistake!!!

Does anyone have a good source for the verde green? I found the two people selling it on ebay and one place in Miami supposedly has it. $40 a can is a lot.


Can anyone answer about the 4 small holes in the Anvil? I just barely started to file out the imperfections and they all appeared in a straight line.

Holes and divits in the anvil come from somebody beating on it.
The hammered verde green is getting hard to come by. There are probably some out of the way hardware stores that still have it at $6.99..... somewhere in the boonies.
