Wilton 840 PATPEN Vice

Hi - I'm new to the forum here. A few weeks ago I was in the market for a basic vice for the shop, and to make a long story short I stumbled across this Wilton 840. It still has the PATPEN on the casting, and the date on the dynamic jaw key/guide is stamped 3-46.

Despite its appearance, it was in pretty good shape and cleaned up nicely. The remnants of what looked like the original paint appeared to be a very light grayish/green, so I ended up using Rustoleum's Sage Green which seems close enough without doing a custom color mix.

GEO: WELCOME TO GJ!!! you found a keeper in your first try and very nice job cleaning it up too.

even though that vise might have been cast prior to Wilton being a company in 1941 just before WWII. when the war was over Wilton lost the government contract and started pulling old stock off the shelf and started dating their vises hence your date. if you have time and would like to make another post over on the Wilton date stamping thread i started a couple years ago you are welcome to and it's a long read, but might be the best Wilton date stamping information on the internet now.
