Wilton ATV All-Terrain Vise

The new Enco sale catalog that came today had this in it. Probably not something that I'd buy, but I thought it was interesting that Wilton is paying attention and listening.

There have been a lot of people who have put together mounts to hold a bench vise in a 2" hitch receiver, both for mobile use with a vehicle as well as flexible mounting options in a shop environment.

Now Wilton has come out with a purpose-built vise for just that application:

Various companies have sold generic receiver hitch vise mounts (flat plate welded to square tube) for decades, maybe thats what you saw? Heck, even the Chinese sell them now through Northern and a few other outlets Im sure.

Cheaper ($159 versus $200ish for Wilton), made in Idaho, USA, MUCH larger opening for changing U-joints on trail, 10 1/2" versus 5 3/4" for Wilton

Jaws are 4" versus Wilton's 6", both have pipe jaws, Wilton has larger anvil.

Mac's has bottle opener

Mac's is 18 pounds, Wilton is 40.

The Wilton has a regular handle, Mac's uses a wrench or ratchet. If you want to leave the Mac's installed while driving no worries about handle dragging. I could use my cordless impact to run the Mac's in or out and use wrench or breaker bar for final tightening.

Mac's has a cool holder for storing it or other hitch items.

We always just mounted our vises on the rear bumper of the service trucks. I like the look of those vices though, and they look to be extremely handy for guys that are on the road a lot. I do like the Macs version a little better.

Wow. Looks ChiCom. And for $200? Whatta deal.

Sorry, I can fab up a hitch mount with a used USA vise for $50.
