In the market for a good 8 lb. sledge hammer. Has anybody got any hands on experience with Wilton BASH? The handle looks good, don't know about how good the steel is in hammer head.

I wouldn't hesitate to get one. Ever watch Stacy David's Gearz? His BFH which he has labeled so is a Wilton.

2ft handle? seems like that would be awkward to use, Our 8lb has a full 3ft handle.

edit; disclaimer it is not a BASH Just home depot special

I bet that $10 sledge hammer is one impressive beast. The key to good sledge hammer is to have one that doesn't loose it's head in hard situations.

$80 for a sledge? Christ...it's only a hunk of steel on the end of a stick!

Actually it is a hunk of steel that has 6 steel rods through it with a rubber injection handle molded around the rods and in the head of the hammer. The handle is not replaceable on these hammers.

I Pound the handle into the hole in the head as far as it will go, cut off the protruding wood and then pound in the steel wedges to hold the handles. Never had a customer come because the head came off. The handles are hickory, I get them at the factory in NC.
