I'm getting ready to strip down and prep a Wilton 600s for painting. I had read in numerous threads about the Rustoleum hammered blue or verde green being a good match. I can't find any locally so I'd have to order it. However I wonder if anyone has ever compared Pontiac blue metallic engine paint? To me the color looks close but I'm not a vise expert and haven't seen it in person.

I ended up ordering a couple cans of the hammered blue from Jamestown Supply, (or is it Jonestown supply?). They deal in a lot of boat restoration supplies. Only place I could find it.

with respect, although verde green might be somewhat similar, it's not the closest color. Here are my two C1 vises right next to each other. one is original and another is verde green. they are not the same! the modern wilton color is bluer than verde green.

as you can see, not the same.

I actually ended up painting one of my vises to dispel another GJ urban legend - that Verde Green is the same as wilton vise paint. It's not. It is just not. It might be "close" but I don't know what the definition of "close" is in this context. Rustoleum's Hammered Finish "Verde Green" is neither hammered nor blue enough to be the same as the new Wilton color.

I'll have to say this again, Rustoleum "hammered" Verde Green also doesn't even leave a hammered finish. In fact, it's the worst "hammered finish" paint that I've ever used. I'm assuming that pontiac "metallic blue" has the same problem as the Verde Green - it's way too light, way too metallic, and completely not hammered.

I'm planning to spray over the verde green with Hammerite's "Light Blue" hammered paint, which appears to be close to the original wilton paint color. The advantage of the Hammerite is that the hammered appearance is much more pronounced.

Well I'm not restoring this vise to original it will be a daily driver. I wasn't set on the stock color but wanted something close. I ended up with titanium silver blue. I am pretty happy with the color but is in no way a match.

You're not spraying the Rustoleum heavy enough if you're not getting a hammered finish. I've seen what you're seeing.

Here's factory paint on two new vises. The color varies GREATLY depending on lighting.

those are two different colors. the photo i posted is of the same model vise in the same photo in the same lighting conditions. this rules out any and all variability.

You mean Wilton blue does not equal Rustoleum Verde Green? Are you announcing the elephant in the room?:eyecrazy::lol_hitti
