I picked up a 5" wilton bullet swivel base vise that needs new jaw inserts. how did I do for $25?

Where can I get new inserts or does someone have a thread for making their own?

I Build jaws in my home machine shop and sell them at wiltonviseparts.net But I only make a 5" in 1 1/4 width. I have not seen any narrower jaws to get spec's from. I am sure autopts could help me with the specs. If interested let me know and I'll get started on your size.

Yes, The little piece that I have is no taller then 5/8" and no deeper then 5/8" and 5" wide.

where can I find the model number on this thing or is there a piece I need to measure to identify?

the thing is like 20-22" long closed the way it is in the picture

Shucks, I'd have to order steel if you need the jaws at 5/8 thick, I have 9/16 thick material that I am machining to 1/2 thick, check to see if this will work for you if not I'll order more material. Spec's are 5" x 3/4 high x 5/8 thick using a 1/4 Cap Screw on 2 3/8 center to center.

I have exactly the same vise I bought 8 days ago for $110. I too would like to know what model it is.

Wish I could upload a picture, but for some reason the web site won't let me.

I gave rough estimate guesses, I can measure with a caliper later. I would be interested but let me get the exact sizes first.

I will be cutting serrations this Monday on my next lot of jaws including your size. Check the size on your set of jaws and let me know. It takes me a month to shuffle thru the steps in jaw making, I build usually 50 sets at a time.

Thanks KMS

can anyone tell me what model my vise is? I can't tell if it is a 1750 or a bullet? I checked for a year and there isn't one from what others say where to look.

Finally I got specific sizes:

5" wide
3/4" tall
7/16" deep
serrated, 2 screw with a center lug

Would like to purchase jaws asap if someone has some on here cheaper then the wilton parts site mentioned

Your vise is DEFINITELY not a 1750. Those are the Tradesman model and have pipe jaw inserts. They are also much smaller in depth with less supported jaw towers. Both have a "bullet" shape but yours more so then a Tradesman. Yours is most likely a 9500 and the vises model generation is determined by jaw height and other design cues like the shape of the jaw towers or swivel base.

The other major clue is the fact that yours was made in Chicago. The move from Chicago to Schiller Park was completed in 1958 so your vise should be right around that date or a few years later.

Let me put this in some less complicated words for you:

You ****,

and will still **** after spending the money to buy brand new jaws for that thing.

That is a healthy size vise for 25.00. I just spent 55.00 on a Tradesman today, complete with jaw inserts, and would happily trade you for your jawless beast.

You **** again:D

Here is a link to a cheaper set then the ones I make, I can not tell you what steel they are made of, how hard they are or if it has the center hole for your pins but they are $10.0 cheaper with free shipping. I do offer GJ a 10% discount but again you will still save money here.
