I found a Wilton bullet vise that opens to 9" and is 18.5" over all on Craigslist right around the corner from me. The seller only wants $75 for it bit it doesn't have the base. ShouldiIgo ahead and pick it up anyway? Can i get a base for it easily? What will a base cost me.? Really have been wanting one of these for the shop for a while but without the base I am a little apprehensive. The price is pretty good as most other sell for hundreds. What do the vise experts have to say?

Not all of them come with a base. Think there is a "N" version and a "S" version of most of their vises. N is non swivel a S is swivel.

Thinking the Tradesman and C series all include the Swivel base.
The Machinist vises come either way. I have a 500N for example.

It's probably 3-1/2" or 4" wide jaws...

If there's no damage to it (cracks, welds, etc), and you need or just want it, yeah $75 is a good deal. ;)

Buy it now.

Offer 60 or 70. But if he holds out, pay the 75.

Buy the vise . . . . those don't pop up in that nice condition often.

The search for base will keep you looking for more Wilton bullets !! ;)

Well somebody bought it...hope it was the OP. I saw it this morning, but I've already got 5 vises I don't need..:lol_hitti

I believe the vise had a stationary base and wasn't missing anything.

Well I went and looked at the vise and decided to buy it. I figured for $75 it wasn't a bad deal for a Wilton bullet. It is a little dirty and rough but it is complete and only needs some cleaning, de-rusting of the handle and some oiling and it will be good as new. I have an old Chas. Parker vise tat has a swivel base that I use almost daily and always seem to need another vise and have been keeping my eye out for a Wilton Bullet as they are just super nice vises. Here are a few pictures of the vise.

If it does not have the base, you simply use the two holes to bolt it down.

here is my 500N

I would like to do the same thing you did with yours mounting it to a receiver hitch so that i can quickly and easily slide it on to the bench and use it. I have precious little bench space now with my Parker vise permanently mounted to the end of the bench. If I do the receiver hitch arrangement I can easily switch between the vises whenever I want. Did you fabricate the plate and mount yourself?
