This is up for auction and ive seen it in person, has no visible problems etc. May i ask what anyone would go to price wise on this? Aka what would your highest bud be? Im curious. Id like to buy this and repaint it and if it needs anything repair tinker with it, although i think it is fine etc. Also does anyone know what a good paint match is?

Wilton vises are fantastic but for some reason people love paying high dollar for them.

I've found that vise pricing varies by region (except for Ebay insanity) and around my parts, I would pay $100-$150 for that vise. Others may be willing to go twice that amount but I cannot see any reason to do so other than to say that you have a Wilton. In my opinion, Rock Island vises are just as good as any Wilton out there and you can get them for much less.

A C-3 is a lot of vise!!! Market price is probably close to $500 + or - for a good used C-3.

If you get it for much less you'll get a You ****.

I don't think you can get that C-3 for less than $300, but in any case I recommend Rustoleum Hammered Blue for the color. If it were the older style, I'd pick Verde Green

Be sure to let us know how you make out. Rustoleum light blue is what I used on my C-1 and it looks nice.

HORSE: a WILTON C3 might be Wiltons top vise and as I mentioned before I think they sell new for $3000. while your 1765 tradesman is a nice 6 inch vise it maybe weighs 70-80 pounds. a C3 weighs about 220 pounds hence it's a little more money. all the pricing is in the ballpark and if that vise is in an auction and goes for less than $500 i'd really be surprised.

I personally like the older C3 that have the jaws bolted in from the back of the towers, but that vise you are talking about is a great vise and probably TOO BIG for you unless you are planning on doing some seriously big projects.

a C2 would be maybe my favorite and i'd actually vote that one as Wilton's best vise since it has 5 inch jaws that are plenty big for almost anything and it weighs about 110 pounds.

Kunk and All: goes to show you how much I know about NEW vise pricing. I thought i'd seen the C3's for $3000 not too long ago. I know the C2's used to be $1300 so maybe new prices are dropping a bit. in any case I still think the C3 is a great vise and might be TOO BIG for most of us.

I expect to pay $100.00 per inch of jaw width for a swivel base bullet that is in nice shape..... Less for basket cases and fixed bases.....That is about where the market seems to be.....

ekegelmann, That C3 looks to be in good shape, and for my area would probably bring $5-600 easy. I paid $600 for a c3 in near mint condition at auction about a year ago which I felt was good for SW Ohio. Good ones seem to be in the $100/in range here also. (not counting the "Baby Wilton" :eyecrazy:)
I agree with Drives, in that you need BIG projects to take advantage of the C3. But boy is it nice to have when you need it. :lol_hitti

Location is a big factor when trying to price these big vices. I drove almost 2 hours and paid $425 for my C3. Hadn't seen one for sale around here in years.

Well, I stopped at 280 I believe and it ended up going over 300. I should have kept going but I stopped in the place and see a better one is coming next week. So Im going all in on that.

Unless you MUST have a Wilton C series, there are equally good vises out there for a fraction of the cost. Rock Island, Morgan, Prentiss, Hollands, etc.

Also, unless you plan on building locomotives in your garage, a C3 is overkill for an average Joe.

Good luck at the auction. Let us know how you make out on the next vise.
