Picked this up for 30 dollars. Stamp on it is 2 89. Been reading a lot of mixed things about it made in China. If it is I'm ok. Only $30. Seems functional and a couple friends have been asking for a refurb vise from me. Here is a pic. Any input on if China or USA made is appreciated in advance. Thanks all.

It's USA for sure. The pipe jaws are separate, not cast into the jaws.

Ruger: they sell for about $200-$300 in that condition and $400 spiffed up on Ebay so you could say you did ok. it's a USA made vise and a good size to use on your bench.

Drives. One thing I liked is that the bullet part was a bit shorter and it could fit in a bench without a lot of space. I'm in a good mood now for sure.

Drivesitfar. Looks like I have another project in works. Thinking I will go red instead of my traditional orange. Thanks for all you input on my other threads in the past. Not sure I ever thanked you before.

That is a common and sought after vise. You'll have no problem selling it if thats what you want to do, or its a great user if you keep it.

Very nice Chinese vise for $30. Just kidding. Nice score. It seems to be in great shape.

82: here's a 1750 that sold for $410. it might have been the right time and right color, but one of our members did a great job restoring it. it's also missing the removable pipe jaws which can be bought for $40 more.

Ruger: i bought one just like yours for a lot more money just to sell and haven't spent 5 minutes trying to spiff it up because i kinda like having a vise or two around. it's a vice for vises (vices) and join the growing crowd.

Ruger,---Forget your friends.---You better keep that one yourself.---If you think you can let that one go because another near mint vise for a near nothing price will come along.---It won't.---The next ones won't be as good and the price will be higher.---Unless you are the kind of fellow that wins the lottery 3 times.

Do your friends a bigger favor by turning them on to The Garage Journal where they can learn how to find their own deal, and how to restore it to.---Don't give/sell a friend a fish.---Teach a friend to fish.

But ultimately, your call.-----That's one great score.

Ruger: TJ painted up that green Wilton with the Snap on label and pretty sure he mentions the paint color on the vise repair 101 thread or the main thread. if i do paint some of my vises i'm guessing i'll be using this green because it is growing on me.

i'm about 99.9% sure your Snap On vise is USA made and here's my 1750 that i paid a lot more for. can you remove the pipe jaws on yours with a screw? I'm betting you can and that is a US made styling. the Chinese versions have the pipe jaws made in the cast.

if you do take this Wilton apart post up before and after pictures with your details on the vise repair 101 thread because Wiltons are a little tricky and we need a few more of them on that thread.

82: are you talking about the pins holding the vise nut? I've only taken apart a few bullets and have yet to move to the tradesman or other wiltons.

some of the members have posted their transformation from pins to screw in pins for bullets on the 101 thread if you have a minute to look them up.

I was referring to that part, about the pipe jaws. Agree originally US styling, but now they still do it w/the chinese version of the mechanic's vise...

You can order paint directly through snap-on so it will match your tool box or whatever desired color you wish to match.

https://store.snapon.com/SearchResu...ished Goods&Min=0&Max=0&FieldId=0&FieldValue=

I really should figure out which vise to restore and paint it up snappy red to match my KRL.

TJ would have used "Extreme Green" unless he sourced it from somewhere else, but these paints would be exact. I'm a purist, I like the color you used to be able to get tool boxes in, red or red.
