hello friends,
I just recently became a member. this is my second post. I have mainly been reading through the journal. I am amazed at the wealth of knowledge
and information from all of the many members. the tech people at the wilton manufacturing co. put me onto the gj website. I called them because I needed some info on a wilton vise I picked up. they weren't able to help me on parts or info but sent me your way. they also put me onto kevin who, made the jaws will see in pictures. thanks kevin. kevin also sent me the article and picture of the whole vise. before and after pics are also included. i do have some other questions about the vise.
1. the vise does grip objects very securely and strongly but being that it is hydraulic how can i be sure that it is gripping to full potential also, the handle and screw does reach a bottom out point and cannot be turned anymore.
2. how do I know the vise has the right amount of oil in it. the article does say the vise is maintenance free but, it is so old how can I be sure. I have not seen any signs of seepage or leaks.
3. I am assuming the allen screw and jam nut in the bottom of the movable jaw is where the oil is drained or added.
4. Is the number 1030 on the side of the fixed jaw the model number?
I know this is big post and I am asking alot but , I know if I am going to get answers it is going to be here. I just want this vise to be right before I put it on my bench. thanks. bh.williams
