Looking at buying a Wilton model 2403 drill press. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this drill, or another big Wilton of similar stature. I can’t find where this is made. The motor says made in EU but don’t know about the rest of the machine. I know Wilton rebrands a lot so who actually made it and where who knows. I made a post on another forum and got a lot of technical info but was wondering about if anyone had personal time with one.

A few specs on this drill. It is a 4MT with a 3hp motor and rated to drill 1.75” holes with a speed range from 82-1524. It drills forward and reverse with power down feed, Coolant pump in base. It is over 8’ tall same as my edlund but that’s neither here nor there. It is a 3 phase same as my edlund.

My biggest drill currently is a edlund 4B - 12” with a 3MT. It is a good drill, no problems. I am just looking at the other because I can likely get it for a good price. But perhaps I ought to keep the old tried and true edlund.

The tapping capability would be handy especially at this very minute since I have 60 3/8” holes I am tapping in 3/4” thick metal by hand. Easily doable just monotonous. The Wilton has a bigger table by several inches which is nice but even nicer it has 3 T slots vs 2 slots like me edlund has and that would be very handy. Don’t know year but it is 2000’s era.

So I am wondering as to quality of machine and anyone’s thoughts on it especially if they have had time on one. And where it’s built? Even on Wilton’s website I can’t find anything on drill presses .

Thank you!

If you can get it for a good price and it's in good condition you really can't go wrong with a drill like that, especially if you have the work for it.
