I bought a Wilton Shop King Vise like the one in the picture at the flea market in Paw Paw Michigan for $35.00 a couple of weeks ago. Does anyone know anything about them? The one I bought and this one that I found on the internet are the only ones I have ever seen. Sort of an art deco styled vise. Just wondering when they were made.

I have never seen that style of Wilton, but I have seen a lot of Wiltons that are round on the back end. I consider a Wilton vise as probably the best. That is the brand that they mostly use at Boeing.

Here is a picture of another one that I found over on shopfloortalk someone had sent it in asking about it and no one over there could tell them anything about it either. Looks like someone has added something to one of the jaws on this one and the pipe jaws are missing otherwise it it just like mine. Come on guys, with all the knowledge on this list I am sure someone knows something about these.

I can not toll you history, but they are clearly are a lower end line for light to med duty (homeowner use). My guess is late 50's early 60's

Call it a lower end vise if you like but its not a light weight. It seems to be alot stronger than my old record vise, and its been a brute Ive had it for more than 20 years

I just picked up this same vise at a local garage sale for $30.

"Wilton 14 Chicago".
"8-635L".
"Shop King" with same logo
NM.
Stamped "121052" on the bottom
stamped "S.F." on the bottom

Has anyone found any more information on this one? Mine is pretty beat up from several decades of use, but it will get several more with me.

I believe the Shop King made its debut in Wilton's 1953 catalog. Wilton assigned the Shop King with the 630 series #. Wilton called it their "Hardware Vise" and said it had " The most value for the customer's dollar" and its remained the Flag Ship of their economy line for over 20 years. Finally in the middle 70's Wilton replaced it with their 640 series Utility Workshop vise that we know today. Collectability isn't high but it still makes for a nice usable vise for the bench. Usually one or both pipe jaws are long gone.

Greetings
I am a brand new newbee to this site.

I just made an ebay purchase of a seemingly identical Wilton Shop King vise.

Upon delivery I found one of the 3 bolt down flanges had snapped off.

Any idea where to get a replacement swivel base?

I pulled the base away from the vice and underneath the base is stamped as follows : 13-6331/2 also stamped directly across from the number stamp are the letters HD.

This is a very nice looking site.

I am in the process of slowly acquiring some shop tools in order to start learning how to make folding knives. In need of a hobby.

thanks

I have one, a hand me down from a grandpa who died long before I was born. I do mostly woodworking so I made some wood jaws for it but just recently I decided to refurbish it. I stripped off what paint was left with my trusty angle grinder and trustier wire cup, sprayed every except the handles in about 10 coats of flat black and painted the lettering with some ivory white(I didn't have a good detail brush so I used my girls mascara Pen's eraser, I( think that's what it's for) anyways it came out acceptable but not great) after I'm gonna put on a clear coat of the spray gloss glaze that drys nice and thick and I got some Brazilian tigerwood with a strip of sapale in the middle I'm gonna use for the jaws

I found one of these on Facebook Market for $30 but the seller indicated "With the guide bar bent it takes more than normal effort to open and close the vise"
Does this sound like something that can be fixed? I have access to a well equipped machine shop and people, that unlike myself, know what they're doing.
This has got to be the coolest looking vise.

Guide looks like it's cast iron. Straightening it can very likely result in it cracking. Everything can be repaired, but on the other hand of you need a vise, it's better to spend a bit more and get a good one.

If the guide is steel, then repairing it would be very simple, but it looks like it is not.
