I recently came across this Wilton vice. It's a 5" vice, but interestingly, it only has one hole for mounting. I was curious if anyone knew anything about it, or what application it was designed for.

VISE.

I have a similar older Craftsman that has one "mounting" hole..., It is supposed to have a swivel base and the single hole is for the lockdown handle. Most likely the swivel base had 2-4 mounting holes on it.

I would guess it is an older 'general purpose' vise, as it does not appear to have any USA markings on it.

That is one of their current imports missing the swivel base. Used to be USA made when it was Colombian badged

Thanks.

Probably not very useful missing the base.

actually, you'll find that if you drill another hole and bolt it down, as 454 said, it will hold things more securely than with a rotating base attached...but you will not be able to rotate it. After buying a fixed base vise several years ago, I sold all my rotating base vises and use only fixed base vises. Never rotated them anyway.
