Wilton vise 8400 HD swivel base question

Hi Garage Journalers,

Bought a Wilton 8400 HD for a reasonable price and want to restore it, but not sure if it has the correct swivel base underneath.

The swivel base has cast numbers 13-400-A and 13-600-B but I think this swivel is to big for the 8400.

Can you knowledgeable guys help me if that is the right swivel and if not which one is the right one?

Thanks in advance

Lars

That base looks right to me.

Your vise has certainly seen a busy life of service but will restore beautifully. I just finished up another Wilton restore about a month ago. The process is as much fun as using the finished product.

Welcome.

Base looks correct for a late-50's to early-60's model 8400. Especially the hex hold down clamps. They did not get the serrated base until later.

Thanks guys. Thought the diameter is too big on the bottom of the base since it seems not possible to mount it to the workbench w/o the rear jaw is behind the edge of the workbench top so that long items can't clear the workbench top. Can someone measure their 8400 swivel base on the bottom? Or take pictures if the back jaw clears the workbench top.

If you locate the base with the wide spaced feet out front it should have the clearance. Have you tried all possibilities?
