I put this in the wrong general category yesterday, so Im putting it where it belongs. Here is my wilton that I use at home, I haven't seen many with the stationary jaw set up like this. Could someone tell me what these vises are called, and for what purpose. is it made to swivel, or put a different type jaw? Whats it worth? Any info is appreciated. Thanks guys!

Looks like the jaw could swivel around 180 degrees so that the vise could also act as a spreader. Just my observation.

That was Witon's Model 450SJ and it was feathured in their 1958-59 Catalog and it conformed to Fed. Specs. GGG-V-436C, Type VII, Class C which meant Goverment, and Defense Dept. shops could opt out and buy these. That swivel jaw's only purpose is to hold uneven pieces. Someone had an vintage black 6" swivel back that was an original "Wilton Tool" from the late 40's- early 50's posted somewhere on GJ. Its over $200 as it sits no doubt. Very nice!

I just got one of these (450SJ) from my dad tonight.. it's new/never been used, surface rusty from sitting in storage for the past 34 years since acquired. Light gray in color. Will have to post a few pics. I was having a hard time finding any info on it until I came across this thread.. greatly appreciate the info.

If you already have a nice size vise you beat on. Don't lay a finger on that new one. That one could be worth some big bucks.($300-$400) Don't even take the slight rust off
