Hi,

I'm new here and I picked up a Wilton 5" vise and need help identifying it. The only number cast on the vise is 101043 which I assume is Oct 10th 1943. The spindle nut have a number stamped on it 101041. The dynamic jaw was stuck and the vise is also missing the jaws. I managed to free the jaw and was able to remove the dynamic jaw.https://scontent-ord1-1.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xft1/t31.0-8/11850644_10206234338250173_5478411101033517515_o.jpg

You must be in or near Chicago---I saw that Wilton with the broken foot and missing jaws on CL a few days ago in the Chicago ads. Looks like a bit of a challenge, but I'm glad someone on GJ grabbed it. Good Luck!

Audi: that # you mention is a part #. can you pull out the dynamic slide and turn it over to get the date stamp? unscrew it all the way and you'll need a rag to wipe off the grease to see the stamp. also how wide are the jaws when the vise is closed?

it's a Wilton Bullet and a good vise for any homeowner and a lot of business and the military use them too.

good find.

also hope you stick around to join our forum and we'll be happy to help you with your new finds in the future. we don't like just being used as free appraisal service, but will be happy to do that for participating members.

EDIT: i just saw the broken/missing foot on the swivel base and other Wilton vise's swivel bases will work for that vise if you find one or you can buy a new one from Wilton i think.

It was also missing the horseshoe washer. I measured the horseshoe to be 1-3/8". the Washer that goes behind the horseshoe OD was 2"O.D. I'm trying to find the correct model to order these parts.

Thanks

The Jaw is 5 inch and since there are no steel jaws at this time the gap between the jaw is .9 inch.

Audi: sorry i won't click on a link by a new member so if you have some pictures you want me (us) to look at you might use the paperclip just above where you are writing your posts and attach pictures like you would on an email.

thanks

Audi: you have several issues going on with your Wilton so before you take them on you might want to think of keeping it or selling it as a parts vise. i'm not the wilton expert like some of the members that have restored many of them so here's another thread where you can post the pictures with your questions.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252830

those members or other handy members might see your questions there and be able to help.

BTW which screw holes are you re tapping the horseshoe holder's or the jaw's?

good luck
