I've made these notes in my forum research. Some information I found was conflicting. This is what I came up with. If my list needs any updating please let me know!

Paint:
Wilton
- first - light grey
- 1950s - "hospital green", Rustoleum Sage Green
- 1960s - hammered light blue metallic
- 1980->current - Rustoleum Hammered Verde Green
- hammered light blue or the old standby, Verde Green

Here is an example of what you’re talking about.

The vise on the left was painted with a custom blended paint color matched to a Chicago era bullet with well preserved paint.

The vise on the right is painted with Rustoleum Satin Sage

Gmanbart. I don't know if you see it on your end but are you aware that almost all of your photos have a huge band across the center advertising photobucket and making the colors very hard to see.

I guess you weren’t around for the great Photobucket event when they held all the old photos hostage until a ransom was paid. Many GJ photos were either lost or affected with those ugly bands. Sad day.
Anyway, most of us have started or continued to use the paper clip icon to post directly to GJ rather than using a third party photo hosting service. For years, Photobucket was free but it’s a life lesson that free things won’t always stay free.

I recently picked up a wilton 835 vise dated 6 30 64. The vise was very dirty with heavy layer of dirt and oil all over it. After a light steam pressure washing with de-greaser I got it down to original paint. It appears to have been the light green color but then repainted with hammered blue overtop of that.

I have a 70's Wilton 835 laying around and it doesn't have a hammered finish. It looks like a grayish solid color (under the rust).

Is there another color that is a good match for Wilton bullet vises? I see they sell Rustoleum hammered light blue (only in cases of 6) but some of the comments say it’s more silver colored. Would Rustoleum hammered gray be kind of similar? Does anyone have any examples of hammered gray on a bench vise?

I just checked again they had one case available a week or so ago at my nearby Home Depot but it seems to be out of stock now.

i found it "in-stock" at this janitorial supply company the other day and "bought" it. It says it ships from the manufacturer, so I expect an email in the next few days telling me it actually isn't in stock and they won't charge my card.

yeah I’ve given up and I’m gonna try the Rustoleum hammered gray.

Any tips for using hammered spray paint? I’ve used regular Rustoleum spray paint but not familiar with hammer tone. The tips I’ve seen says to not use primer and also to spray one heavy coat almost to the point of it running. Is this the best method for getting the hammered look?

I use self etching primer with the hammered paint. Yes, putting it on heavy is the secret to the hammered finish. Surfaces that are horizontal tend to give the best results too. I cant tell you how many times I used hammered paint in several light coats and wondered why it didn't look right lol.

I just got a 1948 production bullet 935. I’m trying to find the safe green rust oleum satin without luck. Has anyone else found another color that is close to the original hospital green color for the old ones?

Sorry to revive this old thread. Is the rustoleum hammered light blue or hammerite light blue closer to the original wilton colors? I'm able to buy both of them in my local stores at this corner of the earth.

I'd like to know as well. Ive read about Rust-O-Leum Hammered Verde Green, but it appears to have been discontinued, so what the next best thing?

Does anyone have any info on something that closely matches the brilliant orange color. I have one that was real rusty but it was orange, I cleaned it up with a wire wheel, I’m guessing a coat of primer before the paint goes on but I’d really like to get it back to the original color. Date on it is 56

I restored several Wilton bullets years ago, Rustoleum hammertone paints (Verde Green?) worked great.

Fast forward to today, wanted to maybe re-spray this C2, only to find that any hammered paint remotely close to the Wilton has been long discontinued. Is there ANYTHING currently available that is remotely close for a mid 90's Wilton?

Its gotta be cheaper to have a local auto body paint store match and spray it that way. Maybe not but always an option.

ebay is up to $125 a can, well outside my comfort level. Really surprised someone in the paint industry hasn't seized the money laying on the table that people might pay for a Verde Green hammered paint.
